When I walked in it was definitely a small restaurant but there was Peruvian music playing, the lights were dimmed and were framed artworks along the walls. According to Statistics Canada, 26,715 Peruvian immigrants resided in Canada in 2011 and 43% of that was in Quebec. These Peruvian immigrants brought with them their culture and their fantastic food that I tried for the first time at Chichos.

GIVEN WITHOUT ORDER

Right after ordering we were served a plantain chips appetizer. I haven't had plantains in this form and to have it in the form of chips was really interesting and something new. It was slightly crunchy on the outside but not as much as regular chips are. The plantain was cut thin enough to get that slight crunch but thick enough to still have its regular texture as well. It didn't have much seasoning to it but it came with 2 different sauces that made up for that. The first one is a red, salty and slightly spicy sauce and the other being a very spicy creamy green sauce.

APPETIZERS

As an appetizer we got a Jamaican patty looking dish. When I cut through it with my fork I realized that the dough around the meat was very crumbly and dry but in the best way possible. Instead of being flaky and crumbly like a Jamaican patty, it was thick and soft and tasted exactly like homemade tortillas which are to be expected as it was made out of corn flour like tortillas. The meat was very sweet and all in all, it tasted sort of like a dessert rather than an appetizer. It also had tiny peppers which you don't expect and if you bite into them and gets very spicy so I would definitely look out for those but if that something you enjoy I would check it out.

MEAL ONE: BREADED CHICKEN

The breaded chicken tasted unlike anything else I had ever tried before. It's "breading" was literally just egg. The entire chicken dish tasted more like a breakfast meal but surprisingly I really enjoyed it. As you would guess if it tasted exactly like an omelet. it was made from an egg batter almost like a frittata. The chicken inside was very juicy and tender and the bad around it was super crunchy there wasn't too much of the seasonings and flavors because I feel like it would overpower the egg which already has a strong flavor

Along with the chicken came rice, potatoes, and salad. The potatoes were very soft but still had a bite to them which means they were cooked most likely in a pan to allow the heat to soften parts of the potato work still keeping the bike to the rest of them. They were nicely seasoned therefore not just with salt and pepper and it added plenty different flavors to the chicken. The rice was slightly seasoned but there was definitely butter in it. It was different than the other white rice such as Indian rice was a lot drier but Asian rice was a lot softer it went very well with the rest of the meal and you got a very big portion of it for the price

Salad: The last part of the meal was the salad. On top of the Romain lettuce cucumbers and tomatoes was a different new dressing but I've never tried before altogether the dressing made the entire thing very well seasoned and have some spicy flavors. I wouldn't expect in the salad I was a very great way to finish off a delicious meal

OVERALL

Overall I was so glad I stumbled upon this Peruvian restaurant in the heart of Little Italy. I would definitely recommend checking it out for some new foods and something different to incorporate into your life. I definitely need to try Peruvian food that again.
