According to the Canadian Encyclopedia, Chinatown was established in the 19th century by Chinese immigrants from Western Canada. It is one of the oldest Asian communities in North America and is now a tourist attraction thanks to Expo 67. A lot of the first Chinese immigrants to settle in Montreal were from southern China and they decided to establish themselves and that little section of Montreal and then began opening up small restaurants and little businesses. Over time, Chinatown has become an amazing place to find fantastic restaurants.

MENU

Oh, dumplings menu is incredibly diverse. The entire menu takes up quite a few pages and is separated into a bunch of different categories It had an appetizer section, obviously a dumpling section, hot meals, cold meals, soups and noodle soups, etc. Therefore I found it very easy to navigate and also it excited me to try one of everything. I'll have to be returning.

CRISPY CHICKEN

First up was the crispy chicken. The breading was very buttery and flaky. It added a great crunch and a variety of texture throughout all the dishes we had that evening. The pieces of chicken were very good and the meat was tender. It had simple seasoning and I believe this is because it was meant to be eaten with the sauce that came with it. This sauce was very cold and lemony, and because it was sweet it was very juicy. The dish itself kind of reminded me of chicken cutlets, which you would see in many different kinds of cuisine, especially Italian cuisine. I really enjoyed this and it was really filling.

We ordered rice to go alongside the crispy chicken and we decided to order sticky rice/steamed rice. When ordering steamed rice you expect to be plain because it tastes the best when you eat it with other foods in order to mesh the juiciness sauces of different dishes into the rice which then soaks up the flavors. It was also very sticky and soft therefore it was easy to eat with chopsticks you are not picking up one piece at a time like normal rice. I really enjoyed eating it alongside the crispy chicken but I would recommend something soaking in the sauce as altogether it was a little dry but that was a mistake on the ordering and not on the restaurant.

SIRLOIN BEEF NOODLE SOUP

The second main dish we ordered was the beef sirloin noodle soup and this was a great choice. Personally, I'd never had an Asian cuisine noodle soup before but I'd seen a lot of them. When I got the dish I ended up realizing how big the dishes were and how filling they could be. The broth was warm and tasted very similar to the broth that goes along with Wonton soup. It was very thin and kind of watery like chicken broth. The noodles were kind of "Aldente" which gave the dish a little bit of a bite, also the vegetables were kind of crunchy. I really appreciated the different varieties of textures in the dish. Finally, the beef is super tender and juicy. Altogether this was my favorite dish.

CHICKEN AND CORIANDER FRIED DUMPLINGS

We couldn't go to a place called Oh Dumplings and not order a plate of dumplings! The ones we decided to order were the chicken and coriander dumplings and we decided to get them fried instead of steamed. The sides were soft but the ends were very crunchy and golden brown. The meat was soft, kind of paste-like. The dumplings were salty and had simple flavors. Unlike the other fried dumplings I had at the Korean restaurant Seoul Chako that were deeply fried, these ones were pan-fried. You could see the dumplings being handmade through a glass section in the restaurant.

OVERALL

Overall this restaurant had many different varieties of food and dishes for you to try and all of them seemed so appetizing and the smells in the restaurant were super enticing. I'm gonna have to go back to try some more dishes. I would highly highly recommend for you guys to check this out if you if you are ever passing through Chinatown.
