Adonai is a small place in Montreal North that serves super tasty Creole food for great prices. Creole is usually defined as those who were born in Louisiana during the French and Spanish periods, regardless of their ethnicity. They were known to do the best they could with the land and what they had.
MENU
The menu had lots of meats, prepared differently, there was chicken, turkey, beef, fish, and there was even vegetarian options. They offered plenty, and I am sure you would be able to find something to try. I also observed that there was a buffet in the back, that I would recommend looking at because I feel like that would be a way for you to try a little bit of everything rather than just getting one plate.
SALAD

From what I observed, the salad wasn't necessarily from this culture, it seemed more of a house salad, something that is served everywhere. Simply lettuce, tomato and cucumber salad with French dressing. Just something to fill your craving as you're waiting for your meal. The salad was very clean and fresh, and the dressing it was paired with tasted sweet and slightly citrusy. It was a nice way to start off your dish.
MEAL ONE CHICKEN

The chicken was super juicy and so the flavors burst into your mouth with every bite. It was slightly seasoned but I believe most of the flavor came from the way it was cooked. It was smokey and the outside was charred though somehow the meat was able to stay very flavorful. It was easy to eat, by which I mean it was tender. The meat itself paired well with the rice and the distinct flavor of the rice matched the smokiness of the meat. The sauce that it came with was kind of oily, it wasn't super thick, it reminded me of a thinner gravy. It was not spicy as I expected, but it gave the chicken an extra boost of flavor.
MEAL #2 TURKEY

The turkey was definitely my favorite dish of the night. It was super tender and fell off the bone. It was covered in an outstanding sauce that left the most interesting flavors bouncing around in my mouth. The meat itself was very seasoned with slightly spicy but also smokey flavors. Although the turkey already came in a sauce, I believe it paired very well with the same sauce as the chicken. It calmed down the smokey flavor a little bit and marinated two different tastes in one
MEAL #3 BEEF

I've noticed a theme in this restaurant and these meals, smokey. Everything that we had was either charred on a grill or in an oven or was marinated in smokey seasoning. The beef itself was charred on the outside which gave it a crunchy texture. The flavor though seemed like a toned down version of the chicken tastes. It had less smokiness from the grill but more seasoning on the actual meat. This made it a perfect mix of flavor. The beef was slightly dry which made it amazingly juicy when paired with the sauce.
Plantain
This was a lot more like a pancake. It had a floury type of feel in your mouth. The outside was battered and therefore it was crispy. The inside kind of reminded me of a tougher version of mashed potatoes, as it wasn't super soft. It still retained most of the plantain flavor and there wasn't much other seasoning added to It other than salt.
Rice and beans
Lastly, we got a side of rice and beans with each meal. It was a very big portion and because of this, I was unable to finish mine completely. The rice was soft and perfectly cooked. It had a distinctive flavor that I can't exactly pinpoint. It wasn't spicy though. The beans didn't add much flavor but they did add a cool texture to the rice that I really enjoyed.
OVERALL
Overall, I really loved this place and I found that the food was really something different than what I'm used to. Along with a lot of flavors, I haven't tried before. If you are heading to, or live in Montreal north, I would highly recommend you check out this place, you won't regret it!
